Which counter should I get for my project?

MEGACOUNT manufactures 2D, 3D and infrared counters.Sales Training

Basically, 3D counter suits most of the projects, whereas 2D and IR counters are not recommended to use in places with natural lighting and dense traffic. OMEGA-USB counter will also need a computer on site for data transfer.
We recommend using IR and 2D counters for smaller retail stores inside shopping malls; for stores with high footfalll traffic or entrances from the outside, as well as for shopping malls and any large locations, we recommend 3D counters.

How to install an FTP server?

STATISTICS software uses FTP for data transfer, and you will need an FTP server to store the data. If you don't have one, we recommend using FileZilla — it's free and easy to install.
You can find how to do it in this file: Setting up a FileZilla Server

How to exclude children from the count?

Children can be excluded with infrared and 3D people counters.

If you have IR counters:
Sensors will not count anything that doen't cross the IR beams between them, so if you don't want to count children, install the sensors higher; just make sure that the sensors are not too high to miss the adults, too. We usually recommend the installation height for infrared counters to be about 140-150cm from the floor.

If you have a 3D counter:
In 3D counters, we use a height filter: it tells the counter the distance, within which to count objects. So when in the Calibration tab, put the lower height filter parameter on the required height — to exclude childre, it is usually set at 120cm.

How to exclude employees from the count?

2D and 3D counters have logical staff exclusion: we use exclusion lines to create a specific route for the employees to take in order to not be counted.
You can find more details on this here.
If you need any assistance with setting up employee exclusion, feel free to write to us at info@megacount.io.

What will I receive if I order a counter?

All MEGACOUNT counters come in a cardboard box. The exact set depends on the order (it's possible to buy a counter without some of the additional components or with optional modules), but standard delivery set includes the following:

What is the difference between 2D and 3D counters?

2D People Counter 3D People Counter
  Technology
VideoCount 2D uses movement detection against a static background. The DSP processor receives the image from the sensor, calculates all the movement changes in relation to the background and based on a built-in algorithm detects customers, tracks them within the coverage area.

StereoCount 3D uses the algorithm of optical stereo video streaming, where two graphic sensors send the data to the counter’s processor that creates a mathematical 3D model of the location, which allows detecting the position and the dimensions of a customer with high accuracy.

Dimensions
The counter is a 95mm х 65mm х 25mm (3.7in х 2.5in х 0.9in) one-unit device with an Ethernet PoE port on its side. There is also a 1/4 inch screw hole on the back cover.

Power
Power over Ethernet is a technology for providing electrical current together with the data to the device via standard UTP.

Power consumption 200mA.

Power over Ethernet is a technology for providing electrical current together with the data to the device via standard UTP.

Power consumption 250mA.

Accuracy

Stable accuracy up to 95% for venues without sunrays and where the customers move steadily with little overlapping.

Stable accuracy up to 99% for venues even with dense traffic. Resistant to shadows and specks of light, great performance even with glossy tiles and dark carpets. Filters for strollers and shopping trolleys.

Where to use

Small stores and boutiques in shopping centers. Stable artificial lighting. Medium-dense traffic, non-glossy floors.

Wherever the 2D counter can be used + Shopping center entrances, stores with high traffic. Unstable lighting and/or sunlight, shadows and light specks. Need to discount children.

SUMMARY

VideoCount 2D: perfect for smaller stores with stable lighting and medium traffic. In case of sun-facing entrances we recommend the 3D counter.

StereoCount 3D: perfect for shopping centers and stores with dense traffic and possible unstable lighting, where it is necessary to discount shopping trolleys or children.

What is the difference between infrared OMEGA-USB and OMEGA-ETH counters?

Both OMEGA-USB and OMEGA-ETH counters are wireless and infrared, and their appearance, installation process and sensor operation are the same. The difference is in the data collection modems that they use: for OMEGA-USB, it's a USB modem, and for OMEGA-ETH, it's an Ethernet modem.
USB modem connects to the computer on site and then transfers data to the server, whereas Ethernet modem is connected directly to network equipment and does not require a computer on site for data transfer.
OMEGA-USB counter can also send raw data to email.

What is the difference between STATISTICS and OMEGA software?

MEGACOUNT has developed two analytical software versions: STATISTICS and OMEGA.

STATISTICS
Data from MEGACOUNT counters is sent to the client's FTP server and processed by the Statistics software that is installed on the company analyst's PC.
To view the analytical reports, just open the application and choose the report you want to see — table, graph, heatmap, etc.
Data can be accessed by those employees who have the software and FTP details (IP, login, password). Automated data export to the PC can be set up in csv format.
Statistics works with MEGACOUNT 2D and 3D counters and is provided for free with the counters.

OMEGA
Data from counters is sent to an HTTP server provided by MEGACOUNT and processed by the cloud solution Omega to generate insightful reports.
To view the analytical reports, open Omega from a browser of any device and log into your personal account. Access rights are differentiated, so every user sees only those counters to which they were granted access.
Omega works with all MEGACOUNT counters and with most third-party video counters.
