3D People Counter
How It Works
3D people counter employs a stereovision algorithm that allows counting dense traffic with high accuracy.
The DSP-processor receives the picture from two graphic sensors, calculates the tridimensional image and turns it into a mathematical 3D model, determines where the heads of the customers are and distinguishes them using the embedded algorithm. The processor tracks the customers within the coverage area, discounting false objects, shadows, specks of light, shopping trolleys, bags, children and strollers.
The processor checks each point in the image from the left camera and identifies the matching point on the image from the second camera.

The 3D DSP-processor calculates the relative shift of the t' and t'' points.

CMOS graphic sensors receive the picture of the coverage area through two lenses. The sensors digitize the primary image and transfer it to the DSP-processor, so they transfer the same image (but shifted along the base line) at the same time.
The DSP-processor receives the images, adjusts the colour, brightness, noise, and buffers it. It compares the two edited images, searches for matching details and based on the result calculates and creates a mathematical 3D model of the location. Using the installed software, the processor determines the positions of customers’ heads and counts how many of these people went through.
The gathered data is stored and then transferred via Ethernet.
The videos show a 3D stream of people without any shadows. The algorithm calculates the height of each person.

Due to the accurate construction of a mathematical 3D map to a precision of a pixel, our counters can calculate the exact height when installed 7m to 10m (23ft to 33ft) high.
You don’t need to keep your computer turned on constantly — the counter performs all the calculations itself.
By using wide-angle 3D lenses we managed to greatly improve the coverage. When installed 3m high, the counter detects people within the space of 3m x 2m (9.8ft x 6.5ft) and therefore one sensor covers all the standard entry points.
If the entrance is wider, you can always group several 3D counters and integrate them into a single system, so they all work as one.
The counting accuracy is almost 100%; the counter precisely calculates a person’s height. The counting is based on detection of heads; height detection accuracy margin is ± 5cm (0.4in). All the calculations go through the counter, you don’t need a computer for that. The counter accurately estimates the number of people in dense traffic. Our devices do not depend on the colour of clothing or change of outside lightning; they completely discount shadows, children, bags, strollers and shopping trolleys.
MegaCount people counters have the capacity to add numerous sensors and counting tools on one device. It gives the opportunity to count the traffic and passers-by with one counter, count people walking in different directions and much more.

Unlike laser systems based on re-built Kinect modules, a stereo counter doesn't contain any beaming elements like infra-red lasers that have a limited service life. We use exclusively reliable optic scanning systems.
We know that only high-quality durable accessories can ensure accurate and stable counting and efficiency of the whole system, and our products manifest exactly that.
Due to a highly effective 3D processor, the device essentially doesn’t heat up and doesn’t require active cooling. The cover is dust-proof, IP 60.
3D lenses and the processor take up little space; the device itself is quite small. When installed, it fits well into the interior and exterior of a location. The dimensions are 138mm х 65mm х 25mm (5.43in х 2.56in х 0.98in).

Built-in WiFi Scanner (Optional)
All smartphones transmit special packages necessary to find Wi-Fi networks. These packages contain unique identification numbers — MAC addresses.
MegaCount counters with Wi-Fi scanner modules can scan, detect and store the addresses of iOS and Android users.
MAC addresses, detected by each counter, are sent to the OMEGA data processing system that analyzes the gathered data and uploads it to use in online tools.

In our design we used modern parts for the base of the counter and have created an elegant device that is small in size. The counter is attached close to the ceiling, and its perfect shape and white-colour cover will suit any interior.
A unique method of mounting allows to install the counter on any surface: dropped ceiling, open cell ceiling, drywall, concrete, outboard support.
